Art at Hamilton
At Hamilton, our Art curriculum is designed to inspire creativity, develop fine motor skills, and provide all pupils with accessible opportunities to explore and express themselves through a wide range of artistic techniques. We recognise the diverse needs of our pupils and ensure that our approach is sensory-rich, engaging, and adapted to support different abilities.
Through structured topics, pupils engage with various media, including painting, drawing, collage, printing, and sculpture. They explore colour, pattern, texture, and form, learning how to create expressive artwork using different materials. Pupils also study cultural and historical artists such as Yayoi Kusama and Banksy, helping them appreciate different artistic styles and their significance.
We embed key skills such as mark-making, colour mixing, pattern creation, and spatial awareness, ensuring that all pupils, regardless of ability level, can access and enjoy Art. Activities are designed to be hands-on, sensory-based, and highly engaging, encouraging pupils to experiment and develop confidence in their creative abilities. Whether it’s exploring polka dot patterns, creating layered prints, or experimenting with graffiti-style lettering, pupils are given opportunities to explore and develop their own artistic voice.
Art is a powerful means of expression and communication for our pupils. Through a focus on exploration and process rather than the final product, we enable pupils to engage in meaningful artistic experiences that build confidence, curiosity, and self-expression in a way that is accessible and enjoyable for all.
