Personal, social, health and economic at Hamilton

At Hamilton School, PSHE is at the heart of our curriculum. We provide a structured and supportive environment where pupils learn essential life skills, including emotional regulation, self-care, and building positive relationships.

Our PSHE curriculum helps pupils understand their emotions, develop coping strategies, and gain confidence in expressing themselves. We teach personal safety, friendships, and independence skills, ensuring that every pupil is prepared for life beyond school in a way that suits their individual needs.

Our PSHE curriculum is delivered through a carefully sequenced programme, ensuring consistency across year groups while being flexible to meet the needs of different learners.

Early Years & KS1 focus on self-care, recognising emotions, developing friendships, and learning basic safety skills.

Lower & Upper KS2 build on emotional regulation, resilience, online safety, and relationships, preparing pupils for growing independence.

Key Stage 3 expands into self-esteem, personal identity, diversity, and making informed life choices, equipping pupils with lifelong skills.

When delivering the curriculum, we use a range of engaging and accessible teaching methods, including:

Hands-on and sensory-rich activities to support engagement for all learners.

Visual aids and structured support (e.g., ALD boards, PECS) to encourage communication and participation.

Drama, role-play, and real-life scenarios to help pupils apply their learning in practical ways.

Attention Autism techniques to capture and sustain interest in PSHE topics.
