Religious Education at Hamilton
Our Religious Education (RE) curriculum provides pupils with engaging, meaningful learning experiences that promote an understanding of different religions, worldviews, and moral values. We take a sensory-rich, inclusive approach to ensure that all pupils can explore religious concepts in ways that suit their learning needs.
Our Approach
Our curriculum follows a thematic structure, where pupils explore key religious and universal values through topics such as:
• Being Imaginative and Exploratory – Engaging with religious celebrations, symbols, and storytelling.
• Being Temperate and Practicing Self-Discipline – Understanding concepts such as Ramadan, fasting, and gratitude.
• Being Modest and Listening to Others – Exploring respect, humility, and attentive listening in religious teachings.
• Caring for Animals and the Environment – Learning about ethical and religious responsibilities towards living beings.
• Rites of Passage in Religion – Exploring key milestones in different faiths, such as birth ceremonies, pilgrimage, and marriage.
How We Teach RE at Hamilton
To make RE accessible and engaging, lessons incorporate:
• Multi-sensory experiences – using light, sound, movement, and textures to explore religious concepts.
• Storytelling and role-play – engaging with religious stories and practices in an interactive way.
• Creative activities – such as art, music, and drama to help pupils express their understanding.
• Structured discussion and reflection – encouraging pupils to share their thoughts, questions, and experiences.
Inclusivity and Respect
At Hamilton, we foster respect for different beliefs and aim for pupils to explore both religious and non-religious perspectives. Our aim is to develop empathy, curiosity, and an appreciation for diversity in all pupils.
Right to Withdraw from RE
While Religious Education is a statutory subject, we acknowledge that parents have the legal right to withdraw their child from all or part of RE lessons. If you wish to discuss this further, please contact the school to explore suitable arrangements.
